A motion was made by Commissioner 7 Blackmore and seconded by Second Alternate Power to approve the minutes as amended.

3              CITIZENS TO BE HEARD

There was no participation in Citizens to be heard.

4              NEW BUSINESS

SUP-2020-01 (Specific Use Permit) - Presentation, Discussion, and Recommendation on a Request by Fernando O’Horan, for a Specific Use Permit for a Funeral Home at 6401 El Verde Road; Generally Located on the North Side of El Verde Road, approximately 400 feet West of Bandera Road; and a Public Hearing on Said Request.

Director Melland recommended approval for Sup 2020-01. He advised the location would be limited to office, retail, and for consultation services. He informed the Commissioners that he had received a letter of opposition from a citizen.

 

Commissioner 4 Proffitt inquired as to how opposition requests are handled.

 

Director Melland advised that the City registered the opposition and would be forwarded to City Council.

 

Chair Smith asked the applicant why they didn’t want a more visible destination.

 

The applicant replied that the funeral business is a destination business and that customers will find it.

 

Second Vice Chair Rowse asked the applicant if he would be displaying signage.

 

The applicant responded that yes signage would be needed and that they would be following the sign code.

 

Second Alternate Power inquired if there was adequate parking to accommodate the applicant’s clientele.

 

The applicant responded that the parking was adequate as they only catered to small groups.

 

Director Melland informed the commissioners that the applicant would have to install an 8ft fence as it abuts residential properties.

 

Commissioner Smith opened the public hearing at 6:54 PM and closed the public hearing at 6:54 PM.

 

A motion was made by Second Vice Chair Rowse and seconded by Commissioner 4 Proffitt to approve SUP-2020-01. 

RESULT:              APPROVED [UNANIMOUS]

Chair Smith announced that the meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM.
