PURPOSE

 

This agenda item will allow the City Council to consider a resolution appointing a new Alternate Board Member to the Leon Valley Public Library Board of Trustees.

 

The only vacancy on this board is that of one (1) alternate. Two (2) applications were received.

 

The Leon Valley Code of Ordinances Chapter 1 General Provisions, Article 1.06, §1.06.004 states the following…

 

“The library shall be administered under the supervision and control of the city manager by a board of trustees to be appointed by the city council and to consist of seven (7) members and two (2) alternates. Such trustees shall be appointed to serve for a term of two (2) years coterminous with that of the mayor. A trustee who is absent for three consecutive board meetings except for illness or disability, or without first being excused in advance, shall be deemed to have vacated his trusteeship, and the city council may appoint a new member to fill the unexpired term. Appointees need not be residents of the city, but preference shall be given first to such residents and second to residents of the northwest part of the county.”

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF LEON VALLEY CITY COUNCIL APPOINTING AN ALTERNATE MEMBER TO THE LEON VALLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

 

WHEREAS, The City of Leon Valley deemed it necessary to create boards, commissions and committees composed of volunteers from the community to perform specific functions for the City.

 

WHEREAS, these boards, commissions and committees are invaluable to the City Council for their expertise, insight, and dedication to the City of Leon Valley.

 

WHEREAS, the City Council of Leon Valley empowers these boards, commissions and committees to make decisions affecting the citizens and the future of the City.

 

WHEREAS, the individuals currently filling the boards, commissions and committees have performed admirably and honestly for the benefit of the City of Leon Valley and its citizens.

 

WHEREAS, the City Council formally appoints and sets the term for the following individual to their respected board or commission:

 

LEON VALLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES:

Alternate - __________________ for a term of two (2) years.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LEON VALLEY, TEXAS:

 

That the appointments of the aforementioned individual to their respected board, commission or committee and term for each individual become effective immediately upon the passage of this Resolution.

City Secretary Saundra Passailaigue presented this item for consideration of a resolution appointing a new Alternate Board Member to the Leon Valley Public Library Board of Trustees.

The only vacancy on this board is that of one (1) alternate. Two (2) applications were received.

After a brief discussion a motion was made by Council Member David Jordan and seconded by Council Member Belinda Ealy to appoint Dr. Catherine Rodriguez as Library Board of Trustees Alternate.
