PURPOSE

 

The Leon Valley Public Library was awarded two grants totaling $7,500 for the purpose of purchasing juvenile non-fiction print materials. The Tocker Foundation grant was for $5,000 and the Texas Book Festival Grant was for $2,500. 

 

SEE LEON VALLEY

 

Social:  We will have current materials for our local children to meet their education and entertainment needs. Better support of school curriculum. Present an appealing and updated collection to our community.

 

Economic:  The grant provides an updated collection in a large part without the city having to fund the updates and replacement items over many years

 

Environmental:  N/A

 

FISCAL IMPACT

 

Funding for the purchase of updated juvenile non-fiction print materials is coming from two grants; one from Tocker Foundation and one from the Texas Book Festival. We are given the ability to update our collection in a timely manner with these additional funds.

 

STRATEGIC GOALS

 

Through this, we will meet the city’s goals of:

 

Goal #6 - “Citizen Involvement” by providing our youth with updated materials they will be more inclined to check out.


Goal #7 - “Parks, Recreational Green Space and Cultural Opportunities” by providing reliable books on non-fiction subjects for youth, many of which will address culture directly.

Approve the acceptance of the grant funds and the request for a budget adjustment in order to purchase juvenile non-fiction print materials for the library.

AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FUNDS FROM THE TOCKER FOUNDATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $5000 AND THE TEXAS BOOK FESTIVAL IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500 FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT OF $7,500; AND AMENDING THE FY 2016-2017 GENERAL FUND OF THE CITY OF LEON VALLEY, TEXAS MUNICIPAL BUDGET IN THE AMOUNT OF $7,500.

 

WHEREAS, the Leon Valley Public Library was awarded two grants totaling $7,500 for the purpose of purchasing juvenile non-fiction print materials; and 

 

WHEREAS, the Tocker Foundation granted $5,000 and the Texas Book Festival granted $2,500; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant funds will provide the City and opportunity provide current materials for the local children to meet their education and entertainment needs, including support of school curriculum, and an appealing and updated collection to our community; and

 

WHEREAS, it is necessary for the City to accept these grant funds in order to have these opportunities; and

 

WHEREAS, Texas Local Government Code Section 102.010 provides that a municipality is not prohibited from making changes to a budget for municipal purposes: and

 

WHEREAS, the Leon Valley City Council hereby finds and determines that the amendments adopted under this ordinance are for a municipal purpose;

 

WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Leon Valley City Council to accept the grant funds from the Tocker Foundation in the amount of $5,000 and the Texas Book Festival in the amount of $2,500 and approve amending the City’s FY 2016-2017 General Fund Budget in the amount of $7,500; NOW THEREFORE,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LEON VALLEY, TEXAS: 

 

Section 1.              The City of Leon Valley hereby approves the acceptance of the grant funds from the Tocker Foundation in the amount of $5,000 and the Texas Book Festival in the amount of $2,500 and the FY 2016-2017 General Fund of the City of Leon Valley is hereby amended as provided for in Exhibit “A”, attached hereto and incorporated herein for all purposes.

 

Section 2.              The financial allocations in this Ordinance are subject to approval by the Director of Finance. The Director of Finance, may, subject to concurrence by the City Manager or the City Manager's designee, correct allocations to specific accounts as necessary to carry out the purpose of this Ordinance.

 

Section 3.              This ordinance is effective immediately upon passage by four (4) affirmative votes; otherwise it is effective on the tenth day after passage hereof.
