AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE FY 2017 POLICE FORFEITURE FUND OF THE CITY OF LEON VALLEY, TEXAS TO INCREASE THE BUDGET IN THE AMOUNT OF $494,300.00 FOR THE PURCHASE OF POLICE EQUIPMENT FOR OPERATIONS AND SUPPORT

 

 

WHEREAS, it is the overall goal of the Leon Valley Police Department to provide the best possible service to our residents, visitors, and City staff. 

 

WHEREAS, the upgrade of current equipment used by police officers is imperative to establish clear and concise communication with dispatch operators, our officers and other first responders in the region; and

 

WHEREAS, this new equipment represents the latest generation technology and will accommodate the Police Department needs for the next 10+ years; and

 

WHEREAS, it is necessary to increase and adjust the budget by $494,300.00 to purchase police equipment for operations and support;

 

WHEREAS, Texas Local Government Code Section 102.010 provides that a municipality is not prohibited from making changes to a budget for municipal purposes: and

 

WHEREAS, the Leon Valley City Council hereby finds and determines that the amendments adopted under this ordinance are for a municipal purpose; NOW THEREFORE,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LEON VALLEY, TEXAS: 

 

Section 1.              The FY 2017 Police Forfeiture Fund of the City of Leon Valley is hereby amended as provided for in Exhibit “A”, attached hereto and incorporated herein for all purposes.

 

Section 2.              The financial allocations in this Ordinance are subject to approval by the Director of Finance. The Director of Finance may, subject to concurrence by the City Manager or the City Manager's designee, correct allocations to specific accounts as necessary to carry out the purpose of this Ordinance.

 

Section 3.              This ordinance is effective immediately upon passage by four (4) affirmative votes; otherwise it is effective on the tenth day after passage hereof.

Police Chief Joseph Salvaggio presented this item beginning by saying that the after a few months of accessing the department, he feels it has a lot of needs and that it was in really bad shape in a lot of areas. Chief Salvaggio is asking the City Council for approval of an ordinance which would allow the department to purchase some of these items through the expenditure of some of the forfeiture funds.

Chief’s presentation was followed by a brief discussion.

A motion was made by Council Member Benny Martinez and seconded by Council Member Monica Alcocer, to adopt an ordinance authorizing a budget adjustment in the amount of $494,300 for the purchase of police equipment for operations and support from the Forfeiture Funds as presented.
