Item Discussion

PURPOSE

To consider, discuss and possibly take action on the appointment of a Hike & Bike Committee.

At the January, 2016, Town Hall Meeting, Leon Valley Citizens overwhelmingly favored the creation of a Hike & Bike Committee; however, the creation of said committee has been delayed because Phase 3 of the LC 17 Project has been delayed by Bexar County.

The first committee meeting would be scheduled in February of 2017 so that the appointed committee can establish proposed guidelines for council consideration in March of 2017.

SEE LEON VALLEY

Social Equity - The committee serves as an advocate for programs and ideas in the natural area and it should recommend improvements to the natural area that add to the quality of life in our community

Economic Development - The City of Leon Valley could see an economic benefit from a fully functioning committee if ideas are developed and eventually implemented in áreas of recreation (i.e. hike and bike trail).     Further economic impacts could be seen in usage of the area.

Environmental Stewardship - The committee can involve itself as environmental stewards of the natural area and ensure that the trail meets the expectations of the citizenry.

FISCAL IMPACT

None at this time.

STRATEGIC GOALS

This item meets the City Council Strategic Goal of Citizen Involvement.
